Hero
Mokya Shin (b.1995) is a Seoul-based filmmaker and artist currently pursuing an MFA in Documentary at the Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS). Transitioning from a six-year career as a journalist and experience as a Creative Producer at Vice Media, Shin’s practice operates at the intersection of documentary, experimental film, and media art.Shin’s work focuses on the "restoration of omitted time," tracking the lives of liminal beings—such as sexual minorities and social outcasts—who have been systematically erased from mainstream history. By navigating the fissures between virtual and real networks, the artist transposes the temporal and sensual dissonance of technology-mediated societies onto the screen.Through the subversion of traditional mythologies and binary structures, Shin seeks to reconstruct the narratives of unrecorded bodies and probe the formation of modern digital affect. Ultimately, the work aims to translate existential tremors into a multi-layered sensory experience, establishing a new ontological archive for those living on the fringes of society.
